Shri D.K. Shukla has been an integral part of the Indian shooting fraternity since 1972, when he first became associated with the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI). From the very beginning, he took on key responsibilities in developing the sport at the grassroots level. He played a pioneering role in helping establish several state rifle associations, including the Madhya Pradesh State Rifle Association (MPSRA), Uttar Pradesh Rifle Association (UPRA) , as well as associations in Manipur and Assam. His relentless efforts laid the foundation for the growth of competitive shooting across India.
In the early years, shooting competitions were conducted on manual ranges. Under Mr. Shukla’s guidance, the first-ever Nationals using speech-operated target machines were organized at Kanpur, along with the creation of a dedicated shooters’ village at the Armapore range—a milestone in the modernization of Indian shooting facilities.
In 1990, he led the Indian team to Moscow as Coach and Manager, beginning a long and distinguished career as a national coach and mentor that continued until 2010. Over the decades, he has trained, guided, and managed countless shooters, many of whom have gone on to achieve national and international recognition.
Mr. Shukla has also been instrumental in constructing world-class shooting infrastructure. He oversaw the development of international-standard ranges at many locations, introducing advanced Electronic Scoring Target (EST) setups that match global competition standards.
His leadership extends beyond coaching and infrastructure. As a member of the NRAI Governing Body and now General Body, and serving as the Vice President of the Madhya Pradesh State Rifle Association since August 1992, Shri D.K. Shukla continues to contribute to the promotion and excellence of shooting sports in India. His lifelong dedication, visionary planning, and hands-on guidance have made him a pillar of Indian shooting.
